USA Warriors Coming to Tsongas Arena

A team of American heroes are coming to Lowell, MA for a couple days this April. The USA Warriors, a hockey team of disabled veterans, will play an exhibition game against a team of local Olympians on April 9 at the Tsongas Arena. The puck drops at 7:30pm, but the evening really begins at 5:00pm for an autograph session followed by an intrasquad scrimmage by the sled hockey team.

If you’re unfamiliar with the USA Warriors, let me give you a brief overview. They’re a Washington, D.C. area non-profit organization that uses ice hockey as a means for the physical and mental rehabilitation of combat-wounded and service-disabled military members and veterans. They have two teams — a sled hockey team and a standing hockey team. The sled hockey team will play a scrimmage at 6:00pm. Their match will be followed by a match between the standing team and a team of former Olympians. Their individually inspiring stories are second only to their character and willingness to give back.

Tickets for the entire evening’s events are $10 and the proceeds will be split between several worthy organizations. Although the USA Warriors rely on the money from these events to keep the program going, they’ve insisted on donating a significant portion of the proceeds to the One Fund Boston and the Travis Roy Foundation. ¬®That speaks to the character of the men and women who defend our Nation¬® said Travis Roy, a former Boston University hockey player who suffered a spinal cord injury in his first collegiate game.

These are exactly the sorts of events that we like to support, so we wanted to help spread the word. So stop by the Tsongas arena on April 9th if you happen to be free. If you’re unable to make the event, but still want to show your support, you can find information on how to donate here.
